Zambra entered service with the Cambridge Police Department in April 2014 with her first handler Officer and Bomb Technician Edward Burke. They completed the MBTA Police Department’s EOD Canine Academy after 10 weeks of training. Since then Zambra had held and maintained certifications from the Boston Police Academy, International Police Working Dog Association and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for explosives and firearms detection. After Officer Burke’s retirement in 2017 Zambra changed between handlers before finally being assigned to Officer and Bomb Technician Charles McNeill in April of 2021. Zambra continued to work and maintain her certifications through her retirement in April 2024. Over the course of that career K9 Zambra responded to over 457 “Incident” calls and more than 130 dignitary protection sweeps. She served at large scale events such as the Boston Marathon, Independence Day celebrations, and many events in the City of Cambridge and in mutual aid to nearby agencies.
