Moody became a member of the Fountain PD K9 program after flunking out of a service dog program, he made it as far as the final testing phase but was clearly to high drive to be a suitable service dog. Moody received a new job and a new name when he arrived in Colorado. He was named Luther, not a great fit, FPD and the city of Fountain took a vote, Maverick, the other K9 at the time was named Goose, or Moody in honor of FPD’s only fallen officer. Votes were cast and Moody was officially renamed. Training started and went great, Julian and Moody got certified in October of 2020. After training it took them awhile to find their groove as a team. Julian put in a lot of extra time and training to make Moody a solid drug dog, there were often days when Moody was reluctant to go to work, not wanting to leave his spot on the bed. Moody was officially retired in January of 2023 after mushrooms became legal in Colorado. We lost Julian to a line of duty death the following month. Our 3 year old son loves playing with his police dog, they take bad guys to jail together. Moody holds a special place in our family and our PD family and is a constant reminder of Julian’s passion for the K9 program. Since retirement Moody has enjoyed a life of leisure. He spends his days napping, cleaning up after our son, those are always the best treats, and going on walks, playing fetch, and swimming.
