Kobe

  • Breed / Mix: Belgian Malinois
  • Age: 6 Years
  • Service: County Police / Agency

K-9 Kobe is a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois from Holland who proudly served as a dual-purpose Patrol and Narcotics Detection K-9 with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (SC) from 2021 to 2024. During his service, K-9 Kobe was an invaluable member of the department and community, credited with over 15 apprehensions and countless successful tracking captures. His drive, courage, and unwavering dedication made him an exceptional working partner. In March of 2024, K-9 Kobe was shot multiple times in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend a fleeing suspect in a stolen vehicle. After months of extensive surgeries and rehabilitation, Kobe demonstrated remarkable resilience by returning to duty, where he went on to complete 3 additional K-9 apprehensions and 16 captures. On October 1, 2024, K-9 Kobe officially retired from active duty due to ongoing pain caused by surgical plates and screws in his right paw sustained from his line-of-duty injury. Today, Kobe enjoys a well-earned retirement filled with rest, peaceful walks, and the love of his family. As his handler, I am forever grateful for his courage and loyalty—without his protection, I may not be here today.
