Junior proudly served as an explosive detection K-9 with the U.S. Capitol Police from September 2016 until his retirement in March 2025. He worked with the K-9 Person Borne Improvised Explosive Detection (PBIED) Unit, searching large crowds of people for potential threats from suicide bombers or other person-borne threats. He provided security for 3 presidential inaugurations, 9 states of the union speeches, numerous foreign dignitary visits to the Capitol, gold medal ceremonies and many other special events taking place on Capitol grounds to include yearly Memorial Day and July 4th Concerts. He was also present and worked the aftermath of January 6, 2021. Junior was frequently called upon to greet VIP’s coming to capitol hill. Due to his friendly nature, he was a favorite to get called up to the chief’s office to provide a comforting presence whenever he was needed. He was lucky enough to greet a few make-a-wish children as they visited the Capitol. Junior is loving retirement life and has been a great mentor to his new working dog brother!
