Born on July 4, 2024, K9 Bo began his journey in law enforcement at just six months old when he was purchased from Georgia K9. Under the guidance of his trainer and handler, Sgt. M. Hatch, Bo completed his training in-house with the Winston-Salem Police Department K9 Unit and went on to serve his community as a dedicated tracking bloodhound. Although his career was brief, Bo’s impact was anything but small. During his time on duty, he conducted numerous tracks, assisting officers in locating missing individuals. Most notably, Bo played an instrumental role in reuniting three missing children with their families—a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the true value of his service. Unfortunately, Bo’s promising career was cut short when he was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia, forcing him into an early retirement. While his time wearing the badge was far shorter than anyone had hoped, his contributions serve as a reminder that a K9’s legacy is not measured by years of service, but by the lives they touch and the difference they make. Today, Bo is enjoying a well-deserved retirement at Sgt. Hatch’s home, where he shares his days with Sgt. Hatch’s new bloodhound partner, K9 Fancy. Though his working days are behind him, Bo will always be part of the Winston-Salem Police Department K9 family. Bo may have retired from duty, but the three families he helped reunite will forever be part of his legacy.
