K9 Apache’s historical data Apache begin his Indiana State Police service in June of 2016. During his career he led the Indiana State Police K9 teams in deployments and K9 usages. On Oct 10th, 2017, during an apprehension deployment K9 Apache was shot in the neck by the suspect who tried to pull a gun on his handler. This action allowed his handler to effectively engage the suspect and stop the threat. After the incident Apache ran off and was MIA for 12 hours. The local gangs had placed a bounty on his head and multiple agencies searched all night to locate him, and early in the morning of Oct 11th he was reunited with his handler. He was quickly taking the Vet for his injuries and returned to work three weeks later. Apache had a great career spanning over 8 years.
