Meet Molly: A Hero in Fur, Now in Need of a Little Help Molly is a retired black German Shepherd who proudly served Crawford County, Iowa, for over five years as a certified K9 officer. Trained and annually certified in Omaha, NE, Molly specialized in narcotics detection and tracking, lending her incredible nose and sharp instincts to not only her home county but also to surrounding communities in need. Molly’s work ethic was unmatched, but what truly set her apart was her unbreakable bond with her handler, Darin. Watching them work together was like witnessing a perfectly choreographed dance—built on trust, respect, and a whole lot of heart. Her favorite reward after a job well done? Her beloved Kong ball! And don’t even think about skipping the “ice cube tax”—a quirky little ritual where Molly insists on being paid in ice cubes several times a day. It’s just one of the many ways she brings joy and laughter to those around her. Now retired, Molly has transitioned beautifully into family life, showing her gentle, sweet nature around small children and soaking up all the love she so richly deserves. But like many retired working dogs, Molly faces medical challenges that come with age and years of dedicated service.
