Rascal

Rascal was born in Michigan, and was trained from the time he was a puppy, in North Carolina. Once he was paired up with his handler in 2017 and completed his initial training and certification, he came back to the Coatesville VA Medical Center to begin working. Over the years, Rascal participated in hundreds of hours of additional training and certification – to keep his skills fresh and up to date. In his working time, he conducted over 100 monthly narcotic searches and his presence helped to minimize drug activity in the VA community -hopefully saving some lives. His retirement has included playing with his German Shepherd brother, additional food and treats, and time to “just learn how to be a dog”. Throughout his years working, no one was allowed to pet him while on the job. Now, he loves the attention and asks everyone for belly rubs and snuggles. One of his favorite training trips was training on the Hudson River in NYC, visiting Lady Liberty.
